How To Add CBD To Your Summer BBQ

Farm To Table CBD

There is nothing better than spending time with friends and family during a summer barbeque. Great food and great weather have the tendency to bring people together in the best kinds of ways. But Hemp also tends to have the same effect of bringing people together. Whether it is in a smoke circle or an alternative medicine facility, these plants offer the ability to unite many kinds of people.

People are joining together to praise CBD and its effects and provide plenty of user testimonies about the benefits of taking CBD on a regular basis. If you happen to run in a circle where CBD is prominent, then you might be considering ways to incorporate it into your next BBQ menu. If you or your local CBD are drawing a blank though, here are some homemade CBD BBQ dishes for you to try out.

Adding CBD to Edibles

When adding CBD to any homemade edibles, you’ll want to start with considering the flavors in the food and the terpenes present in the CBD herb. Every strain will contain a different, distinct set of terpenes that will enhance certain flavor profiles when eaten. For example, a strain with a citrus scent from the limonene terpene will also have a citrus taste to it as well. These types of strains might go best with a lemon-based sauce or dressing for your BBQ.

Sifting out All Plant Matter

Also, if you are working with dry herb as a base for your homemade CBD BBQ treats, then you should consider the taste of plant matter that will make it into your food as well. Even after you’ve strained out all the hemp's leaves and stems, an overwhelming musty or grassy taste can remain in homemade CBD butter. To help balance this taste you can pair it with another set of strong flavors, such as citrus, chocolate, or peanut butter, which is why store-bought edibles often come in these flavor varieties. In general, though, the taste of hemp can often be balanced out with acidic ingredients, spices, sweetness, or smoke.

CBD BBQ Ideas

It might take some experimenting to get the right balance of flavors in your CBD BBQ dish, but it is well worth the effort in the end. To give you a head start though, here are some barbecue staples that can easily incorporate the flavor of CBD extract.

CBD BBQ Sauce

The staple and signature of any good BBQ is the sauce. BBQ sauce comes in a variety of flavors and styles to match the meat being marinated in it. Lighter flavors like citrus or rosemary often pair well with chicken, pork, or vegetables. These flavors also conveniently pair well with CBD-heavy dry herb strains that contain the terpene limonene. However, you aren’t simply making a BBQ sauce and tossing in handfuls of dry herbs. It takes a few more steps than that.

How to Infuse the Sauce with CBD

To make a CBD-infused BBQ sauce you can start with one of two CBD-heavy bases. You can choose to use a base of CBD extract oil or CBD-infused butter. It really depends on your personal tastes and dietary preferences though. The CBD oil will make the dose of CBD in your dish a little more consistent, but CBD-infused butter will offer a boost of flavor. If you or your BBQ guests have any dietary restrictions, using a base of CBD extract oil may be better. Or you can opt to make homemade CBD-infused cooking oil, such as peanut oil or coconut oil. The good news is that any of these options work great with most homemade CBD BBQ sauce recipes. Be sure to incorporate some acidic ingredients, spicy, sweet, or smoky flavors in your sauce though to balance out the taste of hemp. Here are some ingredients that make a solid CBD infused BBQ sauce:

  • CBD Infused Butter
  • Onion
  • Granny Smith Apples
  • Ketchup
  • Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Lager Beer
  • Water
  • Molasses
  • Hot Sauce
  • Brown Sugar
  • Black Pepper
  • Chili Powder
  • Salt
  • Cumin

To combine these ingredients, you will want to start with melting the CBD-infused butter in a pan and sautéing the onions and apples in it. Then add the spices and beer and allow the mix to simmer for a bit before adding the rest of the ingredients and stirring frequently. From there allow the sauce to thicken, blend it up, and add it to your BBQ meat or vegetable of choice, but pork or chicken might be best.

CBD Butter

If you are opting to make your own CBD-infused butter to use as a BBQ base, it is a fairly simple process although it will take a bit of time and patience. You’ll want to start with melting the butter on low heat or in a slow cooker. Then add ground-up CBD-heavy herb to the melted butter and stir to combine. Allow this mix to steep on low heat for two or more hours. A slow cooker is especially nice for this step since it lowers the risk of burning the butter mix.

After your herb-infused butter mix has steeped for a good amount of time, allow it to cool slightly before straining out any remaining plant matter with a cheesecloth. Then transfer the strained butter to a sealed container to cool off. As mentioned above, you can also get creative and follow these same basic steps with coconut oil or bacon fat as an alternative to butter.

CBD-infused butter can be used to make a wide variety of snacks and treats that pack a satisfying dose of CBD.

CBD Cocktails

If you would rather enjoy your CBD on the side instead of in the main dish, then making CBD cocktails might be the perfect pairing with your summer BBQ. Instead of adding a shot of alcohol to your favorite cocktail recipe, substitute a shot of CBD sparkling water, CBD tincture, or other CBD-infused drinks. They can make for a relaxing cocktail perfectly paired with the summer sun.

No matter how you choose to incorporate CBD into your next summer BBQ, you and your guests will be thankful you did. CBD-infused dishes have creative flavors and a relaxing effect for everyone who indulges in them.
