When it comes to many vaporizer kits, they simply involve a battery with various features and controls (e.g., adjustable voltage and ohms, temperature settings, safety protections, OLED screens, etc.), which is then attached to a specific type of cartridge or tank, usually via a 510 thread connection. Based on their internal structure and design, it’s these cartridges/tanks that determine the type of material you can vaporize, whether dry herb, wax, or oil. And in the case of the SteamCloud models we outlined in this article, they have the ability to accommodate all three types of materials.

So, in general, these terms can often be used interchangeably and will more often than not be understood rather clearly. Dabbing wax is often used as a general, broader term that is meant to indicate that someone is using wax – period. This can be with a wax vape pen or with a traditional dab rig, etc. While this isn’t a firm rule, it generally is true. Vaping wax, however, is the exact same thing, but more often than not people will expect there to be an actual vape pen and not a dab rig. Vape pens have come a long way over the years and the market has expanded tremendously. As such, it is rather difficult to speak at length about all vape pens because their characteristics can vary dramatically with each specific type.
